Žil Julie Vostalová is a visual artist and designer whose practice explores the convergence of digital technologies, sustainability, and traditional textile methods. Vostalová’s work spans digital installations, 3D visualizations, and interactive sculptures. Her practice critically engages with dystopian themes, addressing issues such as the decay of corporate culture and the fluidity of contemporary social structures.
Her work also advocates for sustainability and body inclusivity, particularly through the medium of digital fashion. By employing innovative design methodologies, she challenges conventional
notions of fashion, seeking to redefine its role within the rapidly evolving digital and ecological landscapes. Specializing in digital garment creation, she employs zero-waste patterns and material assemblage using second-hand sources, emphasizing the creative potential of fabric and the dissolution of traditional forms. Her concept of PhyGital Fashion™ integrates physical textiles with digital technologies, a theme central to her doctoral art research at FAMU, which addresses textile waste in
relation to colonialism and digital infrastructure.
Together with Lucie Rosenfeldová they are heads of the atelier Arts and Technology (VU3) at the Fine Arts department at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM).
